1. This wiki can be used to schedule service calls (communicate with employees). Click “This week –service calls” in the “navigate pages” box on the left for a demonstration. Then click "Home Page" to come back to this page. Each communication is easily added and then read by all employees from their computers/smart phones. This wiki is accessible by going to the Internet. Employees can respond to the communication using the wiki. Links to other websites can be added in the communication.

2. Another use of a wiki in helping to manage a company is posting the company’s procedures, which then are easily accessible. Sub pages can be used for sub categories of company procedures, e.g. service, employee, and accounting. On the left in the Navigate pages box are links to pages where procedures can easily be entered. Click the box next to company procedures.

3. This demonstration wiki is a free Zoho product because of its limited size. When the wiki size grows beyond a certain point, fees apply. This wiki website is maintained by Zoho, and can be assessed by company personnel by entering the wiki's URL.

4. This wiki website can be selected as a private website so that only company personnel can view and use the site. To access any page in the wiki simply click on the page's title in the Navigate pages box on the left.

5. There is no reasonable limit to the number of webpages that can be created in this wiki. The webpages are easily created and easily modified. For example, the wiki page, Useful Links, seen in the Navigate pages box on the left, can be easily updated with new useful links. Pages can be created by each company department for their own useful links, or for other purposes.

6. Each employee can post the employee's day schedule to their wiki page from the employee’s personal Zoho calendar application. Refreshing the wiki will bring the employees' data from their Zoho calender application to the wiki. The wiki then is a source of all employees’ calendar information for the day's date. By clicking the plus box next to "Individual Schedules" in the Navigate pages box, on the left, and then clicking the employee's "Today's Schedule", the employee's day schedule will be updated to the wiki.

7. The wiki is a very useful collaborative tool. Pages can be created to brainstorm problems and for problem solving. The "Problem Solving" page has been set up for problem solving a specific problem. The page can be maintained as a company record, or deleted.

8. Accounting reports can be saved as PDF files and then uploaded into the wiki. Once uploaded, these reports become available for all personnel to see. From the wiki, managers can use the reports to point out situations and give directions. Click "Accounting Reports" in the Navigate pages box, on the left, for more details.

9. Budget spreadsheets saved at the company’s account in Google Docs can easily be brought up to a wiki page and viewed. Click “Budgets Using Google Docs” in the Navigate pages box for details.

10. A wiki can serve as an excellent tool to manage company records. Separate pages can be created for each category of record, and then records can be attached to those pages for easy access. Having access to all company documents on the wiki can be extremely useful. Click the plus box and then "Records Management".

11. In addition to the various wiki pages that can be used in company management, described above, here are some other ideas:

a. A wiki page can serve as a company bulletin board. Because of the ease in updating the wiki page and the ease of accessing the information, using a wiki page as a bulletin board could well be more effective than a physical bulletin board.

b. Use a wiki page to provide employee contact and other employee information. Allow employees to add information. Such a page could enhance company cohesion in ways not otherwise obtainable.

c. Use a wiki page for employee suggestions. Being able to quickly access such a page might increase the likelihood of suggestions being made.

d. Use a wiki page to support training. A lot can be added to a wiki (web) page, such as access to video and audio podcasts that provide training. Using a wiki page might increase training results in ways not previously obtainable.

e. Experiment with a wiki page to increase employee and family wellness.

f. Use a wiki page as a survey page. Effective feedback from employees should be important information for management decisions. A wiki page may open up more efficient and effective ways of receiving feedback not previously available.

g. Use a wiki page to provide answers to questions employees frequently have and where employees can ask questions. As in some of the other pages identified above, such a page could increase employee morale and commitment to the company.

12. Wikis are increasingly being used by groups that have goals to reach as a group. Feedback from wiki group users indicates the usefulness that using a wiki has had to achieving the group’s goals. Feedback is accumulating that suggests unexpected positive outcomes on group behavior when a wiki is used.

13. Because of its technical attributes, the wiki can be a powerful management tool. These attributes allow for excellent communication with employees and access to large amounts of information needed by employees. A wiki is very flexible and easy to use. The flexibility and accessibility of a wiki opens up continued, ever improving ways of using a wiki as a management and communication tool. The wiki has the potential, in my opinion, to greatly improve communication and the management of a company.
